Caroline Déodat

Born in 1987. Lives and works between Bagnolet and Clermont-Ferrand.

Caroline Déodat is an artist, filmmaker, and researcher. She develops a practice at the crossroads of ethnography and fiction, archival research and critical theory, exploring the spectral dimension of the moving image, processes of alienation, myths, and histories of violence.

She holds a doctorate in anthropology from EHESS and also trained in contemporary dance. Her films have been shown in numerous institutions, including the Museo Reina Sofía (Spain), the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation (Italy), the Bamako Photography Encounters (Mali), the Jeu de Paume (France), and soon at the e-flux screening room in New York (USA). Her essay Dans la polyphonie d'une île. Les fictions coloniales du séga mauricien (The Polyphony of an Island: Colonial Fictions of Mauritian Sega) was published by Éditions B42. In 2026, she will be in residence at the Villa Albertine, Art Explora × Cité internationale des arts, and the ESACM Research Cooperative.
